A repair class student fixes a guitar

Repair is the bread and butter of the guitar world, and this course offers the beginner training in all of the most commonly seen repairs. This is done by getting our hands dirty, and actually doing these repairs in the shop on instruments we provide, as well as on instruments brought by students.

We will remove bridges, necks, frets, nuts, etc., and put them all back. Fix cracks, and loose braces, and do excellent set-up and intonation. Students can also bring electric guitars to work on wiring and set-up problems.

"The repairs course really gave me a good understanding of all the elements that, when in balance, make an instrument feel and sound great. With this knowledge, I have the confidence to keep trying new projects in my shop at home, to keep learning. After taking the neck off a guitar, (and of course, gluing it back on!) I have a whole new love for the instrument...

Building your first guitar is a very powerful experience. As a player, I now have an instrument I'm extremely proud of and connected to... (as a songwriter, I now use an overabundance of tool-metaphors!) .... I loved every minute of it! (Yes, even the hours of scraping!)

Thanks again for all your help!
Looking forward to seeing you both again!"

My hope is to bring students to the level of skill they need to get started doing repairs in their own shops right a way. Each course is limited to three students. All materials, and living accommodations, are included in the tuition of $1600 (or $1300 when combined with a building course.
