A repair class student fixes a guitar

Repair has long been known as the bread and butter of the guitar world, and we have always wanted to offer a course in repair to compliment our building program. Until now, we haven't felt qualified. Our new partner Adam Buchwald has changed that. Adam comes to us from the repair world of New York City, where he continues to do high-end repair. Adam has designed a one-week repair course that covers the majority of what repairperson's deal with in the trade. Each student receives a guitar to work on to practice repairing broken parts, neck-resets, cracks, fret jobs, playability issues, bridge replacement, set-up and intonation problems, electronic retrofits. A certificate of attendance is awarded after the course. Tuition of $1500 (or $1200 when coupled with a building course) covers all materials and living accommodations . This course will give students the skills and confidence to begin repairing on their own, with little investment in tools and equipment.

"The repairs course really gave me a good understanding of all the elements that, when in balance, make an instrument feel and sound great. With this knowledge, I have the confidence to keep trying new projects in my shop at home, to keep learning. After taking the neck off a guitar, (and of course, gluing it back on!) I have a whole new love for the instrument...

Building your first guitar is a very powerful experience. As a player, I now have an instrument I'm extremely proud of and connected to... (as a songwriter, I now use an overabundance of tool-metaphors!) and as a future luthier I feel grateful to have started the learning process with such generous and talented teachers as George Morris and Adam Buchwald. I loved every minute of it! (Yes, even the hours of scraping!)

Thanks again for all your help!
Looking forward to seeing you both again!"
